rikschaguide.com was founded in Munich at the end of 2017 and was the first online platform in Germany dedicated exclusively to tours and events by bicycle rickshaw.
Discovering a city by rickshaw is a special experience: the certified rickshaw guides listed on rikschaguide.com offer highly individual, personal tours that leave a lasting impression.
Guests can arrange their e-rickshaw city experience either directly through the guides’ personal profiles on each city page (on their own responsibility) or centrally via the instant-booking feature. After launching in Munich, rikschaguide.com expanded to other cities, including Berlin, Hamburg and Cologne.
rikschaguide.com was founded by Falk Hilber. A Munich native, Hilber has been running bicycle-rickshaw tours in his hometown since 2007. From the very beginning he has campaigned politically to establish the bicycle rickshaw as a sustainable mode of transport in tourism (experience segment) and in public transit (mobility segment).
In cooperation with municipal authorities, designated stands and regulations were introduced. Together with the Department of Labor and Economic Development (Munich Tourism), Hilber initiated the first two training programs for “Certified Rickshaw Guides of the City of Munich” in 2017 and 2021 to safeguard the quality of guided tours.
In 2024, under the spin-off “Smart Pedicab Mobility” (SPM), the first city-wide public-transport rickshaw service—called AltstadtMobil—was piloted in partnership with the City of Munich. For two months (mid-July to mid-September), four e-rickshaws plus one wheelchair-accessible rickshaw provided emission-free transport in Munich’s city center from 7 a.m. to midnight in a two-shift operation, bookable on demand via app.
Together with his team, Falk Hilber has owned and managed rikschaguide.com since 2017. During the pandemic years 2020/2021 he founded the manufacturer Coolly® (www.coolly.bike). Under the same brand, the City model is produced in Munich in two variants (F and H)—a modern e-rickshaw suitable both as a family bike and for professional or volunteer passenger service. Coolly® models are continuously developed and distributed across Europe.
rikschaguide.com also operates its own vehicle fleet in Munich, using the Coolly® and the “Model Zero.” The vehicles are rented to self-employed drivers and offered as experiences for private customers: the Coolly® e-rickshaw can be hired via rikschaguide.com at flexible rates (“drive your own e-rickshaw”) for independent city exploration.
Since 2019, rikschaguide.com has run bespoke, attention-grabbing campaigns, team events and shuttles for companies and brands using custom-branded versions of both vehicles. From the outset, rikschaguide.com has relied on dependable regional partners and ecological sustainability: since 2017, 100 percent of the electricity for its premises, production and fleet operations has come from renewable energy supplied by the Munich provider Polarstern.
